3D is all the rage now, and from movie screens, that kind of technology managed to make it onto the gaming scene, starting with the Nintendo 3DS. So it’s obvious that others would get into this new kind of fad, especially the PC market.
Of course, desktops and laptops with 3D displays are not unheard of, but the folks at Origin PC have made a fully 3D-capable laptop for gaming, the EON17-X 3D, and are marketing it as the first 3D gaming laptop with dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580M graphics cards. It sounds insane, but Origin PC is adamant that it will work. Well, the company has never been shy about pushing boundaries, but this laptop really seems to be a good device for those who want excellent graphics while running some of the latest games on their PC.
Other technical attributes of this rig looks identical with the EON17-X laptop (except for the 3D features) including a 17.3-inch display, Intel X79 Chipset with Hexcore Processors, 1080p display, up to 32GB Corsair quad-core memory, up to 16GB Corsair Vengeance RAM, up to three hard drives with 3TB total space and a backlit keyboard of seven colors and three different lighting zones.
Origin PC also offers a lot of options for customizing the laptop on its website, from the choice of displays and chassis, number of graphics cards, and even the harddrives. A pair of wireless NVIDIA glasses are also thrown in as possible options, and they’re not the same kind cinemas would loan out to viewers. The glasses have 3D LightBoost technology, which fixes any problems with dim images due to 3D effects, effectively counteracting any complaints with not being able to see properly.
There’s just one downside to the laptop- it’s extremely expensive. According to the manufacturer, its price starts at $3032, and that’s just for the base features. While it has potential, only those who are willing to part with that huge amount of money can give it a go once it comes out. When will it be released? There’s no word on that just yet.
