Certainly, it won’t be long before Apple releases the OS X Lion 10.7.2 update for Mac devices in preparation for its upcoming iCloud service.

If you remember, we previously reported that Apple issued the beta version of OS X 10.7.2 to developers for debugging. And just last week, Apple had released the gold master build (GM) of OS X 10.7.2 / (Microsoft RTM equivalent) to developers for more testing. This is a good indicator that the company would probably release the official version to the public in the following days.
Reportedly, the update is not necessary for current Mac desktops running OS X Lion to run iCloud. What we do know is that iDevices should run iOS 5 in order to take advantage of the online service. So what is iCloud? You probably heard it a couple of times, but in case you haven’t, it’s a free online storage from Apple for supported mobile and desktop devices.
Apple users will get an initial 5GB online storage they could use to store music files, document, apps and so on. Extra space is available for a fee, of course. An additional 10GB costs $20/year, 20GB for $40/year and 50GB for $100/year. The service can also be used for data syncing and updating multiple Apple devices. FYI, iCloud is the more updated version of MobileMe, which was introduced in 2008 but didn’t appeal to the public.
The upcoming OS X Lion 10.7.2 update will be released through software update and manual download. Stay tuned.
