Is it just me or are smartphone screens getting bigger by the rumor? First there’s the Dell Streak, then we have the Galaxy Tab, and now it looks like we could have another with Palm reportedly working on a 5-inch smartphone that could launch on February 2011 code named humorously as the “Mansion“.

If memory serves correctly, Palm Pre was code named as “Castle” and with this rumored “Mansion” in the making it seems that Palm is keeping up with tradition. Although tradition is now meaning squat when it comes to design forms since Palm could be taking their rumored device in a new and different direction. They were previously set with their old handsets having a QWERTY keyboard, instead of a touchscreen but the new Palm Phone may have an 800 x 480 pixel touchscreen which seems to be the norm for all kinds of smartphone-tablet hybrids these days.
If the specs are any concern, people can only look at current and upcoming 5-inch tablets in the market today and see the common denominator among them. With Palm, we can at least expect the OS to be their very own homegrown WebOS.
Still, keep your fingers crossed if you’re a die-hard Palm fan and hope that this is reality rather than vaporware rumor. Keep posted here as we cover this until February 2011.
