Palm WebOS 1.4: First Look | Review

Posted on 01 March 2010 by pinoytutorial

Palm has released a new version of their Operating System for phones but there is a catch, not everyone who owns a Palm mobile phone or even those who plan to buy one can take advantage of this upgrade unless you are in the United States with Sprint as carrier or United Kingdom, Germany and Ireland with O2 as your carrier.

The upgrade was made available February 26 2010 and for people using Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus with Verizon as their carrier the update was made available February 27 and for the rest of the carriers the Palm WebOS upgrade will be available very soon but Palm didn’t really stated a date, so all we can do is wait.

So what is so special about this OS? Well it will make your uploading and sharing memories easier, and when I say easier Palm’s newest OS means with a few tapping on your phone ( I guess that’s about four or five taps that could be lesser if you need not to edit).

Palm WebOS 1.4 promises to atleast be at par with the leading OS for mobile phones. That means we will see a more enhanced and easier navigation that will lead to a better way of multi-tasking so you get things done faster! One of the things you should expect are;

Calendar – enables you to dial a number that shows in your appointment

Phone and Messaging – Call log now gives options to connect to a contact (such as text messaging)

E-mail – will now let you sort by sender, subject and date.

Enhanced Alerts – the LED screen will either light up or beat like your pulse if you have any incoming email, text or phone call. Need not to worry even if your screen is in sleep mode or silent mode, also you get more personalization features on this new OS as it will give more options for ringtones and themes for notification.

So all in all you get more speed on your uploads and faster response on your screen tapping, in addition to that you get a better video recorder so you can never miss a special moment.

The upgrade has been available since February 26, and will be available to Palm users right away once your carrier already supports it. If not you can simply initiate the upgrade by going to the Update application on your phone.

    i updated to webOS 1.4 on my palm pre a few days ago . since then there’s no facbook app update compatible with webOS 1.4 and two other app udates have failed to install . i’m thinking about trading my palm pre in for a different ( not palm ) model when my sprint premier status allows me to in 3 months . anytime there’s a webOS update it screws up any app updates .

Sensible comments/suggestions are always appreciated.
