Panasonic is a Japanese multinational corporation, whose main business is in electronics manufacturing and produces various products which now include laptops and gadgets. In recent years, they have invented a series of laptops called “Toughbook” which are rugged laptop computers primarily destined to withstand vibration, drops, spills, extreme temperature, and other rough handling.
Their main goal in creating this product is for military, law enforcement and heavy industrial users. However, these series became too bulky until recently when it launched its Toughbook F9. This time it outdid itself by sporting a 14.1-inch laptop with a 3.6 pound light weight. The specifications include a Genuine Windows 7 with XP downgrade option; an Intel Core i5-520M vPro Processor (2.4 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 2.93 GHz); a 320GB shock-mounted, flex-connect, removable HD; 2GB RAM or DDR3-1066MHz expandable to 6GB; 14.1″ widescreen sporting 1440 x 900 high resolution display WXGA plus LCD with LED backlighting; Anti-glare screen; DVD Super MULTI Drive with Dual Layer Support; and up to 7 hour battery life.
It is also ruggedly handsome with a magnesium alloy case designed to withstand a 30″ operating base drop, 26 sides 12″ drop non-operating; 220 lb pressurized vibration and Spill-resistant keyboard equivalent to a protection against 7 ounces spills. For connectivity, it houses an Optional integrated WWAN / Gobi2000 mobile broadband, Optional WiMAX, Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 802.11a/b/g/, and Bluetooth® v2.1 + EDR (class 1). It has an Optional Integrated Security Features like Fingerprint reader and SmartCard reader.
Its specification is really awesome. With Genuine Windows 7, an Intel Core i5, 2GB RAM and a 320 GB hard drive, these aspects are one of the latest in technology. An optional XP downgrade, an expandable RAM up to 6GB and removable HD will prove to be very useful. The screen preferences are state-of the-art. A 7 hour battery life is just normal for a laptop. Also, an Anti-theft and vPro technologies to improve hardware-assisted security and manageability capabilities allows its users to maintain, manage, discover, heal and protect networked computing assets.
But what is most appealing is its ability to withstand drops, vibration and spills. Just don’t try damaging it on purpose! These are really what make Toughbooks real tough. The Toughbook is slated to come out in July 1, 2010 at an awfully high price of $2,899. But with all the good things it boasts of like having a big memory storage capacity, optional capabilities and durability, it’s surely worth the price.
