With the advent of smartphones many have thought that the portable media player market would be gone in a few years. But apparently, the opposite is happening right now. Several PMP devices were launched including the top-notch iPod Touch and Samsung Galaxy S WiFi 5.0. And now, Philips desires to take center stage with its latest Philips Gogear Connect 3 with WiFi.

The latest Gogear PMP can be viewed at the IFA 2011 consumer electronics show in Berlin. The Europe-based tech company had mentioned that its device is a strong contender against the iPod Touch. Sporting a huge 3.2-inch touchscreen panel, the Gogear 3 also runs Android 2.3 and features all capabilities of a regular smartphone less its calling function.
Users would readily notice that the PMP is lightweight and easy to carry. Three large buttons are included at the front (Menu, Home and Back) that takes a lot of space – a bigger screen could have been installed. Android Market can be accessed easily thanks to Gogear’s built-in WiFi. Also, Philips’ SimplyShare software can utilize WiFi in order to share music and video to proximity devices. It is also capable of running high-definition videos and outputting up to 720p resolution to hi-def TV set.
No confirmation regarding its price and release date but most likely it will be retailed at £130 for an 8GB and £160 for its 16GB unit.
