Finally! After eleven months of silence, Sony has officially announced the exact release date of Playstation Vita on US, UK and other Western countries on February 22. Those who aren’t following this saga may have missed that news about Vita’s arrival on Japan will be earlier hitting December 17 this year and NTT DoCoMo carrier will handle its 3G model with a prepaid plan.
For its worldwide release, Jack Tretton announced the phone should be made available around the world: North America, Middle East, Europe, Africa and Australia. However, we haven’t heard if the new handheld console will also be available on other Asian countries outside Japan on February.
For USA, pricing for the WiFi-only and 3G models will be tagged at $249.99 & $299.99 respectively, while Europe has the same unconverted treatment at €249.99 / €299.99l. For UK, it’s confirmed the 3G variant will be available for £279.99 and WiFi model for £229.99.
It’s important to mention those who’ll be picking its 3G model will be required to pay a monthly fee or prepaid plan depending on your local carrier. As far as we’re aware, AT&T will be the exclusive partner of Sony for Vita on United States.
To entice those players on buying the unit, Sony promised a lot of goodies to be given away like exclusive DLCs, free Resistance: Burning Skies theme for PSP & PS3 plus other bonuses depending on your location.
Whatever the case may be, we’ll see how this console lived up to the expectation of gamers once it hit Japan a week before Christmas.
