Plextor is releasing a new portable hard drive that is USB 3.0 compatible, this month.
The Plextor PX-PH500U3 has a 500GB storage capacity and is light weight – only 162 grams, but very sturdy. The hard drive is securely enclosed in a aircraft-grade aluminum and comes with a stylish leatherette pouch. No need to worry if your computer doesn’t have USB 3.0 ports because this hard drive is backward compatible with USB 2.0 as well.
There are also pre-installed applications in the hard drive to make it ready to connect to different systems. There’s the FNet PC Clone EX software to support in backing up your data and the Turbo HDD to monitor your read and write speed and maximize its usage.
The 500GB costs about $146.35, a little bit costly, but worth every penny of it. This portable hard drive is definitely a good buy, especially those getting geared for USB 3.0. For sure, once you upgrade to 3.0, you would want your devices to be as fast as your ports. There are hard drives priced better out there, but they are not USB 3.0 compatible yet.
A larger and a little bit more expensive, the 750GB version of this hard drive ( PX-PH750U3) is also coming in April and that will cost around $195.14.
