The numbers are out, Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft are among the happy campers for getting huge jump in sold units because of Thanksgiving and Black Friday 2009 sales event. Each of them are proud to show the accumulated number of video game console units purchased by American buyers over the weekend.

In America alone, Sony PS3 video game console sold a record of 440,000 units during the holiday weekend (Black Friday-Sunday). This is by far the biggest sale record for Sony PS3 since its launch last October 2009. Additionally, only PS3 units are included on this figure, Sony PSP were also reported to perform well during the Thanksgiving holiday.

The 2009 holiday season got off to an amazing start for PlayStation, with all key retailers showing a significant increase for PS3, PSP and key holiday titles over Black Friday and the holiday weekend

Wii, DS and DSi |Nintendo

For Nintendo, the video game company responsible for Wii, Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi, the numbers are astounding. The Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi portable video game system had sold over 1 million units in U.S. alone – defeating the sales record set by Game Boy Advance on Thanksgiving of 2002. On the other hand, the Nintendo Wii has sold over 550,000 units during the Black Friday holiday.

The Nintendo DS units offered during Black Friday had large discounts for single units while bundle units have different price point. Nonetheless, those figures show that American people patronize great brands for video games and love discounts (period).

Xbox 360 | Microsoft

Xbox 360 console units were among the discounted bundles we’ve seen on Black Friday 2009 advertisements and we also hear that their performance in terms of sales were “excellent”. Aaron Greenberg, director of product management for Xbox 360 confirmed that Microsoft’s video game console had the “biggest sales week of the year” during the Black Friday Holiday.

However, Microsoft seemed a little “shy” to show the complete and actual sales figure for the Xbox 360, although Greenberg confirmed that its 360 console units sold more than twice (on Black Friday) that of the prior week.

All in all, it was a win-win scenario for both consumers and sellers. People had the chance to purchase discounted video game system for holidays without sucking “blood” from product owners. How we wish everyday could be Black Friday!
