Finally, PSP 3000 got a sexier replacement. Sony PSP GO will be around this Fall (2009) at 249 USD. With all the innovative features GO has to offer (new form-factor/slider/digital-tweaks etc) is it worth your penny? To tell you the truth, I have never been a PSP aficionado before, but to give a good comparison next to the PSP 3000, it seems PSP GO is more than just a pretty face.
Coming from the mouth of PS3 developers. Here’s PSP GO quick-pitch:
Introducing the smallest and mightiest PSP® system yet. Download rich, immersive digital gaming or the best movies and TV shows saved directly to the ample 16GB hard drive. Browse the incredibly deep lineup of PSP gaming and movie content on the PlayStation® Network. Use built-in Bluetooth support to connect a wireless headset and utilize Skype to talk with friends. But best of all, show off your content via the ultra-crisp 3.8 inch LCD screen on the most portable PSP system yet.
Woh! Wait a minute did they say GO has a 16 GB internal flash memory?
As for previous owners of PSP 3000, they know that their slim lacks internal memory. In fact, the old model only rely on external PRO Duo memory stick (4GB)
As for the GO version, you can have Micro (M2) type of memory sticks available in (2gb, 4gb, 8gb, 16gb) You can go as far as 16GB thus giving you a total of 32GB yummy storage capacity for your new PSP :D
Bluetooth… At last!
This only means that bluetooth-enabled headsets will soon hit the PSP market in no-time. Also, expect new PSP games, harnessing this feature to enable VoIP. Trash-talking your buddies via wifi could now be possible.
Smaller 3.8 inch display-screen (PSP GO) compare to the old 4.3 incher (PSP 3000)
With the new model, comes the compressing of screen. Do I need to say more?
New Slider-feature
Yep, those sticky buttons that comes in the side-pockets of your old slim will be replaced by slider enabled-controller that complements neatly to the new form-factor of GO
Sleeker, shiny.. Did I say luxurious looking re-design too?
With the new PSP, the weight is 40% lighter (158g) compare to the slim 3000 (260g). A sleeker finish to match the new paint-job and a noticeable shiny chrome at the back of the GO (near the wifi-slider). It’s worth including that the analog joystick became small too.
The caveat? No more UMD. OMG! (meaning all games will be downloaded via WIFI)
This is one of the most controverisal updates of PSP. Say bye,bye to your Universal Media Disc.
Newest games updated regularly on the PSP network (Not free)
One of the hottest GO software right now is the PSP GO explorer. A geographical-tracking application much like maps.google.com with more “sauce”.

Wrap-up:
Clearly, PSP GO is more than just a pretty-face. With all the latest enhancement, I must say this is a must have if you are a PSP collector. However, you also need to consider the price you need to shell-out everytime you download games via PSP network. This issue will surely be the talks of PSP users throughout the year. Though there are rumors that GO could be “unlocked”. I still would not buy this sexy model ‘till I confirmed the unlock models are out there. And if possible a “free-network” to download PSP games. Much like Cydia on Apple iPhone/iTouch models.
Why? Let’s just say I believe that the life of gaming-device rely on the amount of free yet high quality games you can infuse in it. Off the record, “why would you need to pay if you can get it for free right?”
So would you still like to get the PSP GO or not?
