Rock Band, since it’s release, has a large slew of instruments that play at being an instrument. As professional rockers and other musicians have mentioned, these game peripherals are just that, game controllers.

But lo, Rock Band 3 is now coming and with this 3rd iteration of the popular rythm game, also comes the newest generation of musical instrument controllers. Here we have the Mad Catz Rock Band 3 Fender Mustang Pro guitar.
Here’s a quick rundown of the specs:
- MIDI-out port
- 17 frets (real guitars have 21 or 22 frets)
- 102 buttons
- 5 buttons for each fret
- 6 strings on the guitar body
- Xbox buttons and d-pad
- Powered by 3 AA batteries
This is a lightweight and sturdy controller with a full-sized neck. You’re not bogged down with weight issues while still having the ability to play an imitation guitar at its highest level.
The issues would be future damage to one of it’s buttons. Replacement will be a hassle, but good maintenance and care should protect you from that. The Frets could also become a hassle if you’re a beginner, but that’s what the Music Lessons on Rock Band 3 is for.

Expect the Rock Band 3 Fender Mustang Pro to be available by November and have it break your bank for $150!
