Here’s some good news for all those Galaxy S II users waiting for the arrival of Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) on your device. Earlier today, Sammy’s official twitter account for UK tweeted that the device will receive the said update soon, of course, without emphasizing any actual release date.
This is the first time we heard an actual call from the korean-based company since that report last month about Italy getting this update which shouldn’t only be bound for Galaxy S II only but with other 2011 tablets unveiled by the company like Galaxy Tab 7.0, Galaxy Tab 8.9 and 10.1 including Galaxy Note.
According to pundits, it’s seldom you see Sammy break its promise on the UK in terms of releasing OTA updates for Android. However, the case might be a little rough for United States especially when we all know it took almost twelve months before all Galaxy S1 handsets receive Android 2.3 (Honeycomb). Naturally, this creates a segue for another discussion if those first-gen Samsung Galaxy S (Epic, Fascinate, Vibrant, Intercept, etc) units will be able to get Android 4.0 as well?
If you’ll ask us, the chance is very slim and your best bet is to find this on third-party developer sites like XDA. However, as they say, never say never…right?
