Although Windows Phone 7 generally had positive reviews hitting the market last year, one major flaw was its lack of multitasking capability. This year, the second-generation WP7 is expected to arrive on new and existing handsets supporting a wider range of hardware specs. Check out its new minimum requirements.

One of which is the Qualcomm second-generation MSM8x55 running with the more powerful Adreno 205 GPU from the current Qualcomm MSM8x50 Snapdragon with Adreno 200. Microsoft also adds the Qualcomm MSM7x30, both at a minimum speed of 800MHz. On the other hand, Microsoft stays with the 800×480 resolution of a 3.5-inch touchscreen, the five megapixel camera and the 8GB minimum built-in memory. However, a minimum 256MB RAM is required and an optional Gyroscope sensor can be provided.
Microsoft will also be providing frequent updates for the Windows Phone 7 like the ‘Nodo’ update that enabled copy and paste functions and streamlined Marketplace search. The next ‘Mango’ update, however, will feature an access to camera and motion sensor, the Internet Explorer 9 browser, and the multitasking function we’ve all been waiting for.
While exact dates are still to be furnished, Angry Birds will be first appearing in May. Windows Phone 7 users will have to wait for other applications such as Skype, Twitter in People hub, SkyDrive and Spotify while Microsoft provides its developers an update of Windows Phone Developer Tools for building more integrated and high-performing applications.
