After the unveiling of the superphone last week, DoCoMo (Japan’s largest TelCo) which has recently unveiled a set of shiny android devices last summer, will soon have a partner to unveil a new android phone on its sleeves, for the first time. (Sharp as the manufacturer).
Correction for the word ‘android phone’, it’ll be marketed not as a mobile phone or a smartphone, but as a smartbook – Does this ring a bell? – It’ll be called as Sharp IS01 which is lined up with the the IS02, formerly known as the Toshiba K01 during its debut last MWC. Together with KDDI au (Japan’s #2 mobile carrier) they will offer the IS01 unit on an undisclosed date (but sources suggest it’ll be on June this year)
The whole specs of the unit is not much of a brag; It will run on Android 1.6 platform [Why?] and will use 1GHz Snapdragon processor that comes out neatly on a form factor of 83 × 149 × 17.9mm weighing 227g.
It’ll have a 5 mega pixel camera plus a front-face camera (pixels not yet disclosed if it’s the same with the back) and a 960 x 480 resolution. As you can see from the pics, it’ll have a QWERTY keyboard which can be flipped, just like any netbook (uhuh?)
Other features include a blu-ray recorder connection, pre-installed Sekai Camera (Award winning app for air tagging a photo exclusive in Japan) and the usual 802.11 b/g WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, 4GB of internal memory, microSD/microSDHC slot expandable up to 32 GB and a mini USB port. Units can be available in blue or black.
While it seems sharp is a bit timid to share its price to the enthusiast, endgeeks manage to salvage a video-impression with the ISO1.
