So Sharp is now releasing another IS0 series smartphone on their sleeves and this looks like a pleasant surprise since their so-called ‘IS01 Smartbook’ didn’t receive a proper welcoming in the market. At first glance, we were delighted to see the PR screenies of Sharp’s IS03 – which reminds us of the good ole Nexus One. But ultimately what makes us really excited is its startling specifications. I mean for a company like Sharp, they must be really hiding this device more like a secret weapon against that Big iDevice, which you already know.
Going deep, the Sharp IS03 phone has a 960 x 640 resolution on its 3.5 inch screen display which is touted to match the retina display of iPhone 4. A 9.6 MP autofocus camera with image stabilizer (Not disclosed if it will have a front-facing cam) 1seg TV-tuner (TV-broadcasting capability popular in Japan), Osaifu-Keitai payment system – much like the rumored bump-2-pay contactless payment system on the iPhone 5, used likely for quick transactions on streets or subway. This one is bragged as a global-phone meaning it will be available on any country that accepts a CDMA device. So far its current network is KDDI au (Japan’s 2nd largest mobile network). All this on a Android 2.1 platform – which is quite weird for a phone with this kind of specs. Hopefully, there’s an OTA update for that!
Other goodies include a WiFi and Bluetooth 2.0 capability, MicroSD slot for its storage, probably your usual 16-32 GIG capacity. It will also use Flash Lite instead of Flash 10.1 and this phone will be yours on November. Probably going to be release first on Japan then a follow-up launch on USA and Europe. And perhaps in Asia as well since it was called a ‘global phone’.

Anyway boys from engadget thought it was quite sluggish to the touch and it has this plastic-feeling when you hold it — quite disappointing actually when you think about its astounding specifications. Anyway it seems Sharp really keeps on its word about IS03’s crystal-clear display. Check out their PR-Video
