Sigma DP1 & DP2 Merrill: Specs, Price and Release For 46MP Cameras Soon

Posted on 10 February 2012 by pinoytutorial

People who are into photography may want to check out Sigma’s newly redesigned DP1 and DP2 Merill. Just in case you are wondering, the Merill attached to the model name is in honor of Richard B. Merill, co-creator/founder of the Foveon sensor used in the cameras. The imaging chip used in both models sport 15.3 million sensor photosites wherein there are stacked red, green and blue filters.

The DP1 uses a whopping 46-megapixel Foveon X3 direct image sensor. It has a 19mm f2.8 lens that has moulded-glass aspherical elements. Moreover, it features the “F” Low Dispersion and has a super multi-layer coating. The LCD on the camera is about 3-inches and is capable of showing off 920,000 pixel resolution.

On the other hand, the DP2 Merill like its sibling also has the 46-megapixel sensor on it. It comes with 30mm f2.8 lens that also has moulded-glass aspherical elements. There’s also the “F” Low dispersion embedded on it. Like DP1, its 3-inch LCD is also capable of giving off 920,000 pixels. Movie recording capability is present with it being VGA (640×480) and shooting at 30 fps.

Both cameras have the Sigma Photo Pro software, manual focus, advanced user interface and SD card slots.  As for now, we still have to wait for the nitty-gritty details about these next generation high image quality cameras. Pricing and its availability aren’t available at the moment.
