Soapy Download: How To Bypass SOPA Blocked / Banned Websites

Posted on 14 January 2012 by pinoytutorial

Have you heard about the plug-in called Soapy? Will the Soapy kill SOPA? Well, Soapy is actually a free Firefox plug-in that allow users to visit websites that have been banned under SOPA or Stop Online Piracy Act. If you still remember this Piracy act has been very controversial because of its intention. Basically, this piracy act intends to punish copyright infringement on the web, which is very prevalent nowadays. However, thousands of people and even some of the big names in the internet industry have expressed their opinion about the bill. Most of them opposed the bill because they believe that it is some type of censorship on the web.

Apparently, if SOPA passes, sites such as YouTube will be in danger. However, Soapy claims that there is no need to worry because this plug-in will allow internet users to visit sites even if the government prohibits them to do so. How does Soapy works? This plug-in actually works fast and easy. Soapy will automatically redirect its users to the website’s server directly and replaces the DNS system entirely for these blocked websites. In other words, Soapy will work like a reloaded IP address. If this sounds cool to you, then you may also ask if what will be the purpose of SOPA if such kind of plug-in exists.

Soapy will be available only for Firefox, but Soapy creator Griffin Boyce is currently working on a Chrome version as well as a stand-alone app version for both Windows and Mac OSX. So how can you get this plug-in? While the SOPA is not yet in effect, there are already some people who would like to know how to get this plug-in. Well, it is fast and easy. All you have to do is to download it and save to your hard drive. Once it is already in your hard drive, you just need to drag and drop the file onto your FireFox window and restart Firefox and you’re done.

Well, what can you say about this new plug-in? Is this the answer to the SOPA? Well, it seems that the internet always want to be one step ahead the legislation, don’t you think?
