The mobile phone has completely evolved into a device that comes with a lot of functionality that is enough for it to replace the need to carry other devices as well. The top smartphones nowadays can replace a digital camera and offer a good solution for e-mail, web browsing, music playback, watching video and social networking. But it seems that Sony Ericsson doesn’t completely agree on this and believes that the phone is not enough. And this belief apparently gives way to the upcoming device called LiveView.

The LiveView looks a lot like the 6th generation iPod Nano. Apparently this is a second device that we should carry around with us which eliminate the need to take that big smartphone out of your pocket. This gadget comes with a 1.3-inch OLED touchscreen and communicates with a smartphone via Bluetooth connectivity.
The device itself is not much bigger than its display as it measures around 3.5 x 3.5 x 1.1 cm. You can simply wear it in your clothes or just like a watch. It has also buttons on the sides that compliments the touchscreen for a range of input and navigation options.
The SE LiveView can be used to view your Twitter feeds, quickly check who is calling you, check your missed calls, view your e-mails, Facebook messages and even serve as a music playback controller. This device is simply a convenient and portable device that busy people would surely appreciate.
It is compatible to work with any Android 2.0 device, which is quite weird since most of Sony Ericsson’s handset is below that marker. However, Sony Ericsson plans to launch this device within the last quarter of the year, after the company’s Android 2.1 update.

This gizmo requires an app to be installed in your phone that will allow communication with your phone. Sony Ericsson has also created LiveWare Manager to help determine if a specific application in the Android Market is LiveView compatible.
The Sony Ericsson LiveView is expected to be available before the year ends. Price is still undisclosed as of this moment. Whether you need this device or not depend on how often you use your phone for listening to music, checking Twitter or other social networking sites or if you get a lot of calls even when commuting on your way home or as you go to your offices. If you do these things most of the time, then the LiveView will be something very ideal for you to have.
