Could it be? Is it true? Oh please say it’s true!
The future of the PSP has long been in the shadows of other handheld gaming platforms like Nintendo’s 3DS and Apple’s iPad/iPhone/iTouch, and the PSPGo is such a major flop that it was immediately forgotten as a major competitor. Now we have news that Sony Ericsson is planning to release a PlayStation Phone (or is it the PSPP or PSP squared? You know, Player Phone? Whatever). Our prayers have been answered folks, here’s a possible peek to the future of the PSP.

The pictures alone confirms it, Sony seems to be planning to cross a Smartphone with the PSP. The one that will produce it though, will be Sony Ericsson instead of the PlayStation department of Sony. The actual unit is still a Prototype, but here are some of the possible specs that it’ll use:
- Most probably using Android 3.0 “Gingerbread”
- Has a custom Sony Marketplace that allows you to buy and download games for the new PSP Phone.
- 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655
- 512MB of RAM
- 1GB of ROM
- Could be using 3.7 to 4.1 inches WVGA or better resolution screen.
- Horizontal multitouch pad in the center instead of the analog joystick in the PSPGo
- Has the standard PSP buttons and shoulder buttons
- No Memory Stick slot but will support microSD cards
- Landscape slider with game controls in place of the typical QWERTY keyboard
- Possible 5 megapixel camera
- Sony Ericsson Xperia and Sony Playstation branding
The SE PlayStation Phone has been reported to have a possible 2010 or 2011 release so stay tuned.
