So what’s the similarity of Homefront and Mortal Kombat 9 (2011) aside from the fact they are both video games? Well, they use this “online pass” feature that’s driving gamers into a furious meltdown as we speak!
For those who are unaware, Online Pass is a new security being implemented by some game developers that will prevent players from playing the game on another person’s console unless you pay for a certain fee (10 bucks for now) – said to prevent piracy – but gamers feel it’s the new kind of profiteering. Naturally, Online Pass also works on PC games, not letting you install the game on another computer without paying the pass.
Well, what do you know? A recent report from Kotaku reveals that aside from EA and other third party publishers, it appears Sony will also be implementing its own version of O.P called as “PSN Pass” and it’s expected to hit Resistance 3 on its debut this September.
While pundits are still on a guessing game of how will this PSN Pass really work, it’s predicted it should posed the same attribute to EA and THQ’s Online Pass, preventing players to play used games from their buddies unless they pay a fee of 10 bucks.
Likewise, many players are fearing upcoming games such as Battlefield 3 (EA published title) may have this type of feature when its public debut hits on October. Hopefully, that won’t be the case!
