This is day is a significant milestone for Sony as it finally introduces its next-generation PSP device. But before we get into that, one should understand this PSP2 unit may still undergo some tweaking until its release date said to be happening on the holidays of this year (November-December) although we are hoping, the specifications previously announced on this event won’t be downgraded and one could only hope that it would get even better since the features presented for this newly fangled device is ‘monstrous’. Yes, that’s not an exaggeration. So here’s everything that you need to know for this device.

Coming from the Sony Announcement held at Tokyo, Japan recently, the next generation PSP device has been revealed and it will have a codename PSP NGP (Next Generation Portable). At first glance, it will be under a 5-inch 960×544 OLED touchscreen and it has a fine similarities with your high-end smartphone complete with new touchbased applications that comes preloaded on the unit.
It’ll be using a very powerful Arm Cortex type of processor which is said to be Quad-Core (the first in its class) and infused with a GPU for the best graphics display possible. Interestingly, it will have a multi-touch pad located at the rear and a front touch display which brings a new type of gameplay and a 3D-like experience for the gamers. As Sony puts it “touch, grab, trace, push and pull” using your fingers for the best gameplay possible. Furthermore, you can also see that the overall design factor for the NGP is in “Super Oval Shape” whereas it will be using two analog sticks that helps a wider range adaptability for gamers as this device got infused with different type of games later.

Speaking of which, the Sony NGP comes with a Live Area feature which is like an online place where players can share interactively with other gamers (tracking scores, game informations, classes, etc.) In addition to that, there’ll be a new location-based type of service on NGP which is called as “Near”, this will enable users to find near gamers who are playing on their vicinity and easily invite them for round matches or just for a chat.
Everything will be saved on a small flash based memory card, and this is somewhat significant for players. As we all know, the old PSP models have an integrated storage unit which is a burden when you want to install or save a game quickly.
A front and rear camera will also equipped with the Sony NGP and three motion sensors, accelerometer and a gyroscope which gives you the impression that it’s really like the iPhone 4 in a sense that this gaming device can’t call yet but has a 3G / WiFi capability.
