SpaceX Falcon Heavy: Launch Release For the Most Powerful Rocket in the World

Posted on 17 July 2011 by author

Many became emotional – especially kids who are dreaming to become astronauts one day – upon learning Space Shuttle Atlantis’ final mission. But perhaps everthing will change upon seeing the “Most Powerful Rocket in the World”. Check out SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy.

The new Falcon Heavy is designed to carry enormous amount of supplies outside Earth’s orbit such as food, satellites, spacecrafts and so on. Lugging 2x the payload-to-orbit capacity than a Space Shuttle, this space rocket claims to have more affordable launch costs (a mere $100 million per launch) than other leading space rocket designs. The lead designer behind this masterpiece is Elon Musk – who’s also the CEO of Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX), a leading American space transport company.

Led by Musk, the company broke ground at its new launch site at Vandenberg Air Force Base. The Falcon Heavy is expected to arrive at its new home by the year 2012. Towering at 22 stories, the space rocket is a true beast. It is capable of 3.8 million pounds of thrusts provided by its 27 individual engines that enables it to carry immense amount of load.

See this video for a sneak peek:

If everything falls into place, the inaugural launch of Falcon Heavy should be expected as early as the year 2013. Stay tuned for more details.
