Looking for a more convenient way to pay your merchants? Well, the good news is that Square has just introduced a new mobile payment system that will allow consumers to pay merchants without the need of any wallet, but through using their names. Yes, you have heard it right; it is now possible to pay merchants through using your own name. However, it is important to take note that only those merchants who use the Square card reader and runs the startup’s newly updated Square Register for the iPad application can be paid under this new payment system.

This system makes use of the so-called Card case, which is a consumer update that utilizes a digital “put it on my tab” system is supported in Square’s just enhanced mobile application for the iPhone and Android. Initially, this payment system will begin accepting payments for 50 merchants in San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, Washington D.C. and St. Louis. Under this payment system, users will be able to unlock the card case and pay with their names by making their first purchases at a participating merchant.
According to Square’s CEO Jack Dorsey, the Register and Card case will surely help transform everyday transactions between buyers and sellers into something more special and convenient for both of them. This could also help eliminate the need for cash registers and credit card terminals, which are usually expensive, complicated and impersonal in nature.
To demonstrate this new payment system, Square invited three local merchants to demonstrate the new pay-with-your-name mobile payment system at a press event that was held in the company’s San Francisco headquarters.

To start with this new mobile payment system, it is important to know that the Card case will not be initialized until you first purchase at a Square merchant using the new Square Register application for iPad. In order to activate the system simply visit a Square transaction and pay with your credit card. The process is almost the same as previous Square credit card transaction process, but the difference is that you will be asked to input your mobile number at the end of the process. Register will ask you to look for an SMS receipt that will include a link that instructs you to sign into Square or create a new account.
At this point, the Square Card case will now become active and allows you to set-up your first merchant tab using the credit card of your last transaction. Once the tab is ready you are now ready to pay simply by giving your name to the cashier. And make sure to always ask for receipt.
