Stalking kids via Facebook-Twitter?

Posted on 02 September 2009 by pinoytutorial

Recently, someone sent me a stumble message about a “HOT” update on facebook and twitter. The name of the topic is “Twitter and Facebook: Revolutionizes how parent stalk college-aged kids” coming from onionnews.

I was instantly fascinated with the title that I closed the current article I was reading about gizmodo’s report about directx 11 and switch to onion news immediately.

After reading the report, I was more dissatisfied than pleased with the results. I thought it was a new application, a new gadget or perhaps an ingenious add-on with twitter/facebook to help parents track the actions of their “mischievous” kidos. But it turns-out to be something that we (social networking users) already know:

Simply adding a friend and following updates” ZzZzzZ.

The absurd thing here is that: why some of the most popular blogs in the world (huffington post, mashable, liveleak etc) are buzzing this news like it’s the next best thing to discovery channel? LOL!

You got to see the video in HQ

Guys, let me ask you…Does this look something really new at all?

It’s like c’mon… Parents knows how to use social-networking sites and adding their child is very obvious. Some parents even have their own fan page in Facebook and their sons/daughters are the no.1 fan!

The funny thing is that the goal of the news is to “revolutionize parents on stalking their college-aged kids”

Oups, wait a minute… Did they say “revolutionize”? Watch the video again closely… You can see that the so-called e-mom (gloria bianco) merely add her son in FB and follow him in twitter.

Where was the “revolutionized way” of stalking your kids on that demo?

Remember: We are talking about “college-age kids” here (watch American pie to know what I mean :p)

If I were the kid in that news:

I could simply create a duplicate “sheep” account and give it to my e-mom so she can’t follow what’s really happening to me all the time.

Now how can my mom stalk me now, if she is seeing another duplicate social-networking account?

I hope their next release for “parent to child stalking revolution report” is something that is well-balanced to the weight of the title and not the other way around.

P.S: Notice something strange about the video? It seems e-mom’s son is pushing his face to someone else’s O_O yet the reaction of e-mom is still quite “happy”? and at 2:26 part of the video you can see a tweet saying the “F” word to e-mom’s son; however, Gloria “e-mom” Bianco seems to be very “joyful” with the results?

Try showing those pictures and tweets to your real MOM and let’s see how “calmly” she will react!

It’s also strange how the reporters of theonion reacts to what e-mom is saying? It seems it’s already choreographed by some sort of “home-tv-shopping commercial” director.

Just some ramblings of a blogger.

I randomly came across this article and now realize that’s it’s fairly old, but are you aware that The Onion is a fake news site? They run bogus stories based on the crazy stuff that’s happening in the real news. The tone is generally sarcastic and sometimes just silly. I just thought I’d mention it in case you didn’t know.

Sensible comments/suggestions are always appreciated.
