The Star Wars Battlefront III was supposed to be the third of the series of the sci-fi franchise of Star Wars. However it did not materialized according to expectations after development delays had been rumored to surface. The said sequel was set for release in March 2009. In fact Amazon.com has listed a tentative date for the Star Wars Battlefront III along with the different platforms that it will support with the likes of Wii, Xbox 30, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo DS. Unfortunately if you pull up that site today it will give you a 404 error.

It was in September of 2006 when the news of the unconfirmed claim that Free Radical Design was developing the game, but it was only in June of 2008 when alleged information from a LucasArt employee announced that the project was already in the creation process. The turn of events was quick to happen in October of the same year after Activision Blizzard filed to classify the game with a PG rating of E10+ equivalent due to its mild animated violence. About the same month Free Radical Design announces that they have lost the rights continue with the development of Star Wars Battlefront III.
In January of 2009, a gameplay footage was leaked but had been pulled out from IGN. Eventually Rebellion Developments surfaced with the announcement of assuming the development of Battlefront III and reveals Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron. Sources now say that Sparks Unlimited has been awarded the rights to continue developing Battlefront III. However the recent job listing for Sparks Unlimited had caused some long forgotten issue on the delays of the Star Wars Battlefront III to resurface. Question is, when will this long overdue project will materialize? Star Wars fanatics will just have to extend their patience on this.
