Valve’s Steam for PC is getting more and more popular among PC gamers. Steam is a portal wherein they can purchase games, updates and community support. It’s similar with Microsoft Xbox Live except that it’s free. And recently, we heard about a possible cross platform between PS3 consoles and PC. More details below.

Previously, Steam only works on Windows PC environment until it branched out on Mac. And now, Valve is planning to extend its cross platform plans to console systems starting with Sony PlayStation 3. Game enthusiasts believe that this move is good for both Valve and Sony.
On one hand, a large untapped market can be utilized if the cross platform (consoles and PC) will push through. That means, more sales and revenues for both companies. On the other hand, Sony has been pestered by Hackers that it worked on a new security feature for its PS3 games. Steam could help Sony in that matter because it is a form of DRM (Digital Rights Management). Each registered Steam account is provided with a key that can only be used by a single user.
In connection to this, Valve has made its Portal 2 game playable on both PC and PS3 systems using Steam. Apparently, gamers who bought a Portal 2 game disc for PS3 will get a Steam Key that can be used to download the game on their PC for FREE! Isn’t that a fantastic deal?

Steam for PS3 seems like a win-win situation for both companies and gamers. We just have to wait if Valve and Sony will push this idea full steam ahead. Meanwhile, we’re also thinking that Microsoft is planning the same move. More updates about this stuff later.
