Portable harddrives have been the rage these past few years since the ability to actually have portable harddrives came into existence. Although the portability of a large storage space device is a nice change to the small storage space of a USB stick, the speed is still something to balk at since it has not improved until now. Here we have the future of Portable Hardrives, SuperTalent’s USB 3.0 500 GB portable harddrive.

The transfer rates that this baby can go up to 10 times faster than the usual run of the mill USB 2.0 since it uses the right circuitry and SuperSpeed USB. It is the same as present USB-powered portable harddrives so no need for a charger or adapter. SuperTalent is claiming speeds of 90 MB / sec which they have handily provided video proof of:
Current portable storage devices that also range in the 320 to 500 GB storage still uses USB 2.0 and of course other computers and laptops still uses USB 2.0 so there is still that slowing down that is expected to happen when crossing an upgraded version.
If you’re already on the market for your next portable storage device and this is looking mightily attractive, then you can get one by January 2011, although there is no definitive price point as of yet.
