Still fresh from its announcement at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona is the S^3 platform from the Symbian Foundation which recently obtained an open source license last February 4, 2010.
The S^3 is described to be a ‘feature complete’ and will be out for release by the end of this year’ first quarter. But as early as now, Finnish Nokia is already angling their phone to feature the platform which entails relevant usability , advanced interface, faster network support, accelerated 2D and 3D gaming graphics, High-Definition Multimedia Interface support, integrated music store, improved user interface with easy navigation and multi-touch screen and capacity to rung more applications at the same time. Other members of the Symbian community are even now engaged to ship devices equipped with S^3 during the third quarter of 2010.
The S^3 platform features include HDMI support which allows users to connect their phones to a television in order to watch HD movies of 1080pixel even without a Blu-ray player. The Music store integration trait allows user to learn and identify details about a song. Its extra competent management of memory accounts for a Writeable Data Paging which makes for parallel implementation of applications and effective multitasking. Its architecture also include better support for 2D and 3D graphics that is advantageous in a more enjoyable gaming experience. This layout comes with industry-standard OpenGL ES, the latest gaming platform that does not reduce usability of a phone even during a game session.
The platform is also equipped and ready for 4G networks and addresses concerns like bandwidth, latency and jitter. Its one-click connectivity simplifies the process by which the phone connects to the internet. It may automatically switch from a cellular network into WLAN when such network is available. Multi-touch functions like “pinch-to-zoom” may be enhanced through a developer community. The Homescreen also has a support for multiple pages with widgets that can simply be moved by simple flick gestures.
