Lenovo IdeaPad U1 Hybrid really lives up to its name. It's a complete laptop that can be separated - display and keypad. We didn't believe it at first. See the specs review details for this notebook.

2 become 1 or is it 1 becomes 2? It’s actually both from Lenovo IdeaPad U1 Hybrid

We are used to toys that are 2 in 1 or 5 in one perhaps, but those were toys, most of them are cheap one’s our parents bought since they know we will eventually crack them all up. Have you ever imagined if this idea was applied to expensive netbook or laptops, would you still crack them up? I don’t think so; you’re all grown up anyway! But wouldn’t it be so cool if one of you make up kit is a convertible Smartphone, or your clutch back can turn into a notebook?

Hot Stuff right? How about a laptop that has a detachable screen, and the screen turns into a whole new gadget like a multi-touch PC tablet once you detach it? Possible? It is, in fact Lenovo is the 1st one to release such gadget sure to rock the world, while emptying your pocket with an astounding $999. Ouch!

Oh well, money don’t cost a thing for those who has a lot of moolah to shed on this hybrid tech-device anyway so who cares? So what does the 2 become 1 means? Pretty obvious isn’t as I have said, the screen can be taken out from the main laptop body and what’s pretty amazing is that both the laptop and the screen have its own processor and OS, Sweet!

When the situation is 2 become 1 (laptop/clamshell set-up) you get a power saving performance from an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and Windows 7 Home Premium Operating System. If you take the screen out (1 becomes 2) then you get a pc tablet like gizmo powered with a Qualcomm Snapdragon platform and a great 16GB SSD running Linux OS.

Lenovo claims that they want to provide consumers the option to change from one gadget to the other depending on what suits them best, now that’s freedom of choice (that’s a little bit costly)! Weighing 3.8 lbs. and flaunting an 11.6 inch LED screen (if the screen is attached) while the screen alone weighs only 1.6 pounds. Need not to worry about the performance, the two works perfectly fine (like a tag team in a wrestling) they’re in-sync to share battery life, data and files as well as 3G, Lenovo calls this system as Hybrid Switch Technology.

Each of them can support 5 hours of browsing and 60 hours of standby mode. Lenovo IdeaPad U1 comes with an integrated video camera, two stereo speakers with integrated an echo cancellation mic making this the ideal PC that can give flexibility without sacrificing quality. Knocking your doors on June 1 2010, don’t be sad just think that you’ll have more time to save some dough for you new treasure.
