As reported by Techcrunch, there were screenshots recovered from the new Google OS. Their resource persons had previously revealed some key points about the new Google Chrome OS notably:

• “It looks like Chrome browser running in linux”
• There is clock functions, battery and touchpad settings (which suggests it is running on a portable PC)
• “It has frequent crashes”
• HTML 5 works
• Only supports .ogg (No H.264 love) – these are media codecs
• Issues with drivers

In case you forgot the Google Chrome OS duping that happened last July 2009, here are the screenshots. These alleged background images were made by the con artist under 12 hours (according to him) using photoshop and implemented it on Windows Vista. The video was also included (this is a reminder that users should not always believe what they see on the internet).

Google Chrome OS announcement

Google has announced last July 2009, that it will be launching a new operating system called Google Chrome OS which is entirely focused on web browsing. The new operating system is based on Google’s browser, Chrome and will be launched probably by the second half of 2010. This date is far from a week, don’t you think? But Techcrunch assured everyone that they have consulted a very reliable source. Are there any sources more reliable than Google? We’ll see.

Inside Chrome OS’ hood

Initial reports from Google suggest that the new Chrome OS will run on X86 and ARM processors. This is basically used for laptops and netbooks but desktop PCs are also being considered. Take note that the Android OS used for smartphones will be “different” from Google Chrome OS.

It will also implement a new “windowing” system – this is the window graphic manager of your desktop. Another great feature on Google Chrome OS is the “redesigning” of underlying security architecture. Google claims that security built into Chrome will shift from the dependence upon security updates which means that Chrome OS users don’t need to worry with virus and malware infections in the future. It sounds crazy,  but we all know that Big G has the resources (money and brilliant developers) to make this possible. Good luck on that!

Lastly, the Google OS chrome will be an Open source operating system, which is great, independent developers will have the chance to work with Google and perhaps accelerate tweaking and development of this project.

We are very excited that Google have finally taken the step on creating its own operating system.
