THE MAINGEAR EX-L 18

Posted on 24 July 2009 by pinoytutorial

I re-checked the brand which I am more familiar with, DELL. They are the company behind the high-end laptop brand ALIENWARE. In case you’re not familiar with ALIENWARE, they are DELL’s Line of Notebooks that is responsible for giving a “near-like Alien Technology to us Humans!! (a little exaggeration there of course). Though extrapolating the very name itself, ALIENWARE is a sure kick-ass to other league of laptops. Their latest release is The M17x, which starts at the price of $1,799 and goes up to $4,499.00 if you prefer a Final Customization.

Sounds cheap? But the real question here is “Are the specifications of M17x at par with maingear EX-L 18 ? I made a comparative specification list below to finally clear things up.

Let’s start the bout, MAINGEAR’S EX-L 18 VS. ALIENWARE’S M17x , T-I-N-G!

From a reader’s perspective, the specifications of both are pretty much the same. But in the eye of a keen PC critic or a technical person, one would notice that The Maingear EX-L uses GeForce™ GTX 280m in SLI while ALIENWARE uses ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4850 – CrossFireX™ Enabled.

What are you thinking now?  Yes folks, this is the main reason why the price of EX-L 18 soared up so high. In addition to that, maingear uses RAID 1 which means it uses 2 or more Harddisk. On the other hand, ALIENWARE uses RAID 0 which means it only utilizes a single Harddisk. I don’t think the latter difference made the $1000 mark-up between the 2.

In my opinion, I wasn’t totally convince why EX-L 18 hailed as the “WORLDS MOST POWERFUL GAMING LAPTOP” hmm? Was  it because it used  GTX 280m in SLI? or maybe it’s just another Sheer marketing strategy to create a BUZZ.
I’ll leave the door open in case some of you find other reasons to conclude this tackle.
