Thread.com: A Facebook dating site?

Posted on 17 September 2009 by pinoytutorial

I think everyone knows how many hot looking bonnie lasses and gentle men flocked Facebook day-in and day-out. Obviously, some of them are already “in a relationship” but the majority are just plain single, looking for fun on meeting new people.

It will be a dream if someone can find a way to combine this humungous social-networking site and “dating” all at the same page.

Throughout our research we saw a match-making site that offers a similar resemblance to what we have said above. Its name is Thread and the theme is “Are you single? Matchmaker?”. For starters, the site is still on beta-stage though it already made its way on the featured post of mashable a couple weeks ago.

So how does thread works?

Basically, it lets you connect using your facebook account. Once you are logged you can have the opportunity to invite all your friends. After your mutual friends accepts the invitation their profile will start to pop-up on your dashboard and you can finally play matchmaking with them.

It’s said that thread raise a whooping 1.2 million fund for this project to spin through. These thread developers must be pretty serious, don’t you agree with me?

So to do the honor, we tried using thread and we are a bit dismayed with the results.

If you are thinking that the environment will be like a dating site and you can just search profiles and invite them for a date with Mister or Miss hot-stuff, then you are wrong. Without sending an invite first with your mutual friends on FB, your thread account is lifeless.

Also, if you manage some of your friends to accept the invite, your whole “world” of matchmaking will be limited to those peers. You can’t go beyond with this one.

Did I say you can’t even do a simple search in thread without giving an invite first? (So over-rated)

Wrap-up:

We have a gut-feeling that thread is highly concerned about the security and spam protection of each profile so it provides a perimeter for each account to play matchmaking with other folks around the FB world.

I want to say kudus to the group who develop this ingenious project. it’s not every day that you see something like this. However, I hope after the beta stage of thread, the limitation for playing matchmaking will be lessen. If the users will be constraint on matchmaking on “just” their friends (who accepts the invite) then it’s not matchmaking anymore but merely a P2P interaction.

Keep in mind that one of the most exciting part of dating is meeting a person whom you didn’t know and build a connection, not the other way around.

So what do you think buddy?
