The Times Square Ball has always been an attraction to watch in New York City during the new year festivities. Every year, almost a million people gather at Times Square to celebrate the coming of the new year and watch the Times Square Ball drop 23 m through its flagpole at 11:59 PM.

What kind of ball is the Times Square Ball? It is made up of 32,000 Philips Luxeon Rebel LEDs, with each bulb can last up to 1,250 days. It weighs 12,000 pounds and measures 12 feet in diameter. This is no ordinary ball, though. This ball is so popular that millions of people around the world watch it fall on new year’s eve. Another reason what makes this ball special is that it TWEETS; yes, the Times Square Ball has a Twitter account (@timessquareball) with more than 4,000 followers, far.
For those who wants to be at Times Square to see the ball falls, but cannot actually go there, technology may seems have an way to work that out.

The Time Square Ball app (for Apple and Android devices) by Livestream, offers live streaming of the event for 6 hours or more with no commercials. This app also allows users to upload photos to the app and Toshiba, the official countdown sponsor. Toshiba will select photos which may appear on its vision billboard located below the ball.
Kodak also offers a similar app called Kodak Gallery Mobile app where the photos may appear on its Jumbo Tron billboard in Times Square. Visitors of Feedmagnet can also send Instagram photos to its billboard.
TV networks, such as NBC, ABC, CNN, MTV, etc. are also offering rewards or incentives for viewers who will stick with them during the new year celebration for 2012.
