It appears the firesale for HP Touchpad and Pre 3 have already been mitigated today after some pretty impressive streak for the past few days: topping the #1 best-selling electronic gadget of Amazon up to becoming one of the most hot-trend term via Google Trends. However, after the hype, the next question remains: what the heck users should supposed to do with these devices after discovering it can browse the net, use facebook apps, watch videos and listen to music.
Well, a third-party developer called “team touchdroid” revitalizes those fantasy of users of infusing Android on their WebOS tablet making it perform just like those green tablets on the market, but of course, leveraging Touchpad’s high-end specs.
If you’ll vist the team’s wiki page, you’ll have an overview of what they’re trying to accomplish and the simple explanation of how TouchDroid really works: an effort to port Android Operating System to the extinct HP Touchpad.
So far, everything is still on the initializing process and its website hints users may still be able to switch with WebOS anytime they want since TouchDroid works in a Virtualization environment when it switches with Android.
There’s still no release date or leak about its ETA but it’s said this project will be huge and it involves four key components to make TouchDroid work as it is expected to be. The target of the team is Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) but they might bring update when Android Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0) arrives next quarter.
Come to think of it, having a 99-dollar worth of Android tablet is still pretty sweet, don’t you think?
