Tweet Viewer Virus: How To Remove and Reasons Why It Will Repeat Again?

Posted on 06 March 2011 by pinoytutorial

Just like on any popular social-media sites, the quest to find about the person viewing your page has always been a fascination for its users. And so far, this has been the target of hackers, most the time, to spread their mischievous deeds on the network, on an exponential rate.

As of today, Twitter has been plagued by this “Tweet Viewer” worm virus claiming that by installing it on your account, you can actually find Twitter users viewing your account. But the case was the exact opposite.

Here are some screenshots:

After you installed this on your account via the oAUTH process, its system will turn your twitter account into a tweet-viewer spammy account, tweeting something like 10-20 tweets masked with a bit.ly URL shortener.

Actually, this malware originally links to this URL: http://tweetapp.info/viewer/, but is now banned by Bit.ly after discovering that it’s spamming twitter accounts. Anyway, just in case you installed it, you can uninstall it by simply following this tutorial.

Again, this malware doesn’t install any files or Trojan to your computer, but the mere fact that it’s spamming your account means it may do something evil in the end. Sadly, out of people’s curiosity of finding the person who’s viewing their page, it’s very easy to replicate this spam again. Just create another type of tweet using another URL shortener and voila! We’ve got victims again. You see, the real “virus” part arrives when you reached its landing page and you install their so-called “tweet viewer” software, voluntarily.

Just like any social-media malware of our time, viruses today are something that we install out of curiosity, not automatically.
