Okay guys, so what do we have here? Ah yes, the blue chick has been compromised again, and lo! This one is pretty serious. How serious? Let’s just say their website has been ‘defaced’ by this sadistic looking message,
Iranian Cyber Army
THIS SITE HAS BEEN HACKED BY IRANIAN CYBER ARMY
iRANiAN.CYBER.ARMY@GMAIL.COM
U.S.A. Think They Controlling And Managing Internet By Their Access, But THey Don’t, We Control And Manage Internet By Our Power, So Do Not Try To Stimulation Iranian Peoples To….
NOW WHICH COUNTRY IN EMBARGO LIST? IRAN? USA?
WE PUSH THEM IN EMBARGO LIST ![]()
Take Care.
All the while if you check status.twitter.com you can see that the giant microblogging site is getting some glitches regularly throughout the week, some technical details that they won’t disclose. However, today even their status blog has been compromised as well.
Now let me ask you guys, Is this a different kind of story? I mean looking back at the August Twitter DOS-attack that took several days just to get Twitter’s feet back on the ground - was a real mess. As usual their status blog is down too, I guess somehow the geeks of twitter didn’t learn from that mistake. Would it be so hard to have an external blogging medium (e.g, wordpress.com) as their status blog, so people wouldn’t be kept out from the dark?
Okay lets go back to the cyber-iranian hacking gallore today. TC got the whole report about the incident. (click to enlarge)
Speculation at the moment that this may be a DNS redirect, which means that the Twitter.com domain has been redirected to the defacement page. This doesn’t explain why some sub-domains are down, while others are currently still alive (such as search)
We can’t help but to recall the DOS-attack on August wherein it was pinpointed to a blogger named CYXMU.
According to an unidentified Facebook officer: An IP trace was found, leading to an attack to several blogging accounts of ONE PERSON who’s only known by his username in twitter, facebook and livejournal as “CYXMU” (which is a town in Georgia). The motive of the attack was to STOP CYXMU from posting POLITICALLY related BLOGS that will hurt an adversary.
There’s a theory being cooked-up by TC,
There is a history between Iran and Twitter. It was well noted and covered in the media that Twitter was used as a tool during the Iranian election protests. This attack may be an act of reprisal from groups who were not happy with the role that Twitter played during the protests
Still too early to tell, but I must say the stench of the political involvement is getting pretty smelly around here.
Note: There are hundreds of possible scenario for this hack-attack, it could be that the hackers are just using that pseudoname to put the blame on the Iranians and relive some politically induced disagreement between Twitter and Iran. Although, the motive is not yet clear, one could see that if this hack escalates, twitter accounts might be in jeopardy. As a friendly advice, if you use an ‘all in one’ mighty password for your twitter and other related accounts. Now is the good time to change it.
Updates: Ah finally, Twitter had a statement about the said incident. And good news guys, they are back now! According to their status blog
We are working to recovery from an unplanned downtime and will update more as we learn the cause of this outage.
(11:28p): Twitter’s DNS records were temporarily compromised but have now been fixed. We are looking into the underlying cause and will update with more information soon.
Updates: When we said the attack was sadistic, we didn’t know that the motive of the attack was a misdirected politically-willed notion as well. Here’s a pictures being passed along the blogosphere.

The language looks like in Arabic (please confirm this one) Here’s the translated english version:
“In the name of God, As an Iranian this is a reaction to Twitter’s interference sly which was U.S. authorities ordered in the internal affairs of my country…”
We aren’t political-savvy critiques here, but trying to mess something such as a micro-blogging site that brings a ‘disasterpiece’ over hundreds of thousands of users appears to be ‘a not so noble act at all’ and ill-patriotic in a sense. If you feel somehow someone is meddling into a find that they shouldn’t be digging into, why not create a video, a blog, a viral message to show your utter disappointment? Not hack a site which is very helpful for the society. For what its worth, Twitter is just a cute little blue-chick, that is tweeting 140 character worth of message made by users. If there’s something that should be blame, for sure its not Twitter. But its minute parts.
Here’s a video of what Twitter looks like when its DNS has been compromised.
And so the plot thickens with this one, we will keep you guys posted
