Verizon Wireless is launching its own Android App Store that will be called V CAST Apps. Apparently, this decision to come up with their own App market is brought by the fact that Verizon loves apps very much. All those Android-based phone users might already notice a V CAST Apps tab under the official Android Market as of present, but as reported it was revealed that the V CAST Apps will be Verizon’s very own App Store that is expected to be a tight competitor of the Android Market in the near future.

The V CAST Apps Store will prioritize Verizon devices running the Android 2.2 OS which basically includes the Incredible, Droid 1, Droid 2, and the Droid X. In the future, additional OS versions are also expected to be supported by the said App Store.
Last September 1st, Verizon already started to open submissions for Android Apps into their V CAST Apps Store. Apparently, the entry to the V CAST Apps store is totally free, but unlike the Android Market each app will need to go through a detailed review and approval process.
Verizon strongly believes that merchandising Android apps through the VCAST Apps Store will be very challenging, but it seems that they have high hopes that Verizon subscribers will be encouraged to submit their Android Applications through this new Apps market for the following reasons:
- It is absolutely free and charges no testing fee
- It’s fast since it promises to place applications in the App Store within 14 days
- Applications are billed directly to the customer’s billing
- 70/30 revenue share between Developer and Verizon
- You will get the visibility you deserve and not just a quality-crushing algorithm
- Content programming and store continuity across multiple platforms
It seems that the Android Market got some good competition with the existence of the V CAST Apps Store. Since Google seems to a little bit slow when it comes to innovations on its Android Market, this competition might push them a little to further accelerate their plans to enhance the Android Market.
The Android Market and Android Apps needs to experience continued and faster innovations in order to remain competitive especially with the Apple’s mobile line. The V CAST Apps Store seems to be a good alternative for Verizon subscribers out there and at the same time it may also serve as a challenge for Google to come up with a better Android Market.
So what do you think of Verizon’s V CAST App Store?
