Verizon seems to have a shift in strategy with respect to the offering of plans to its subscribers. The carrier plans to expand its options as there is the possibility that family plans will be offered in the future. This plan would allow data service support for multiple devices such as smartphones and tablets.

Come this summer, Verizon will be implementing changes in its plan pricing scheme. It looks like that smartphone plans that allow user’s unlimited Web access for a flat fee will be ditched out and instead be replaced with tiered pricing. Tiered pricing would make heavy data users pay more for the mobile data they use.
After changes have been implemented by Verizon, it plans to soften up a bit with the offering of other options such as the family plan that Verizon has been discerning. As of the moment, families do share minutes for their phone calls today. It only changes when each member has a smartphone each wherein they have to pay $30 per month for the data services. Owning a tablet is also another story as it also means paying a separate data fee.
With regards to the forthcoming iPhone 5, Verizon executive Fran Shammo said that when the smartphone launches on AT&T, it can be expected that it would also hit the Verizon stores at the same time. Shammo added that “depending on where Apple plays, that’s where Verizon will sell”.
