First look at Viewsonic VNB102 Netbook | Specs Review

Posted on 17 December 2009 by pinoytutorial

After the VNB100 and VNB101, Viewsonic has launched its newest netbook member – the VBN102 - in the market in November 2009. It has an Intel-Atom based net book. It is equipped with Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz processor, 1GB of DDR3 RAM, and a 160GB SATA-II hard disk drive. It is further adored with 10.1” LCD screen with the resolution up to 1024*600. Furthermore,  the net book retails in two formats; one hosts a 3 cell battery whereas the higher quality version uses 6 cell battery giving backup of up to 6 hours. The device further includes a 3 in 1 card reader, Wi-Fi connectivity, and a pre installed version of Windows XP/ Windows 7. The ports include VGA output, Ethernet, 3x USB 2.0, multi card reader, and audio I/O.

Is it a good buy?

The VNB102 is only available in black color and the screen seems to be quite thin and just the right size as well. This netbook doesn’t  even feature Bluetooth technology. Overall, we feel that VNB102 can be considered a bit ‘poor’ in comparison with other models in the market. It gives the impression that you might be getting ripoff in terms of performance versus its price. The processor being used is also an outdated one. It doesn’t have 3G and is available with the same old specifications of RAM and hard drive. The touchpad doesn’t have any gesture support – no 2 finger scrolling or swiping. Also, Viewsonic being a new brand, further reduces the chances of timely after sales services for this product.

On the other hand, Viewsonic expects a lot from the product. It could be due to the fact that sometimes things might look so cheap that one doesn’t research a lot about its specifications in the market. The VNB102 was manufactured targeting the lower segment of market i.e. consumers looking for cheap and average-rated laptops. The VNB102 has a tag price of $400 and perhaps it could be a good mid-range netbook buy this holiday.
