Virgin Mobile is now offering an Android smartphone – The Samsung Intercept – which will be available with a prepaid plan for $249.99 by October 15.

Virgin Mobile is known for mid to low end phones and prepaid plans with the average Joe in mind. The inclusion of the Samsung Intercept to Virgin Mobile’s line-up is a good addition especially with students that are looking for a smartphone that can easily serve in place of a very high end smartphone. All the productivity options that can be done on high end smartphones can be found in the Samsung Intercept.
This 4.43″ x 2.19″ x 0.6″ slider phone uses a 667 MHz Samsung S3C6410 (ARM11) processor and runs Android 2.1 with an inclusive 2 GB microSD card which can be upgraded to 32 GB. GPS, Bluetooth, and WiFi connectivity can easily keep you connected especially with the 3.26” capacitive touchscreen on a 240×400 pixels LCD screen and sliding QWERTY pad under your fingertips.
The Li-Ion 1599 mAh battery give you enough juice for a maximum of up to 6.4 hours of talk time. The usual 3.2 MP camera with Video Recording capabilities, Mini-USB port and 3.5 mm headset jack makes this unit a well rounded phone for everyday use.
All in all, a good phone for consumers looking for a cheaper alternative to the high end offerings of smartphones and payment plans.
