Have you ever encountered this comment from another user?.. MUCH WORST! From your friends?
Now when you ask your buddies, if they really send a comment like that. They will simply give you that attitude “HUH?, what comment?”. ![]()
Ladies and gentlemen, you are not alone… In fact, this type of comment has already infected FACEBOOK and Hi5. It was a catastrophic thing for Facebook, and still today the threat has not yet been fully neutralized.
I believe, one of the main reasons why this virus is still circulating the web is because:
Users are not properly informed. They treat this kind of comments, as NORMAL COMMENTS coming from their friends. These people are the average computer-literate individuals that compose the majority surfers of social-networking websites.
Sad but true; nonetheless, It’s my duty to keep you informed so at least you know who “slap” you on that dark-narrow tunnel called “social-networking”
So, what the heck is this worm anyway?
It’s another type of KOOBFACE virus.
Koobface is a computer worm that was ultimately designed to gather sensitive information from the victim’s computer system, such as credit card numbers, personal identity information, etc. This dubious application targets the users of social networking websites, for example: Facebook and MySpace. Koobface spreads by delivering Facebook messages to people that are ‘friends’ of the infected user.
According to KASPERSKY LABS ( one of the leading virus scanner today). This worm transforms victim’s machines into zombie computers to form BOTNETS.
So what is a BOTNET? Ever heard of a website that shutdowns instantly? and you can’t login to their page? Or, why the heck their website LOADS so SLOW?
The main ingredient to orchestrate DOS (denial-of-service) attacks are BOTNET servers. This type of assault is called DOS (denial of service attacks). These utilize BOTNETS (countless ghost network) to overload the bandwidth of a certain website, by sending abnormal amount of “IP-bombs”. Once the attack has been properly executed, the victims’s website crashes. It’s called a GHOST network, ‘coz it uses other PEOPLE’s network to it’s own personal advantage on attacking someone else’s website.
Recent example of a DOS attack, is the unexpected shutdown of twitter last August, 7, 2009.
The sad thing is, when your computer is infected with a KOOBFACE worm, your NETWORK becomes part of a BOTNET. Of course you don’t want that to happen, right?
So, here are the QUICK and EASY STEPS TO ERASE KOOBFACE IN YOUR SOCIAL-NETWORKING ACCOUNT
1.) If your ANTI virus is always updated, and its brand is authenticated. It’s a sure thing your PC is bull proof to this worm, even you manage to click the comment directing to it by accident.
2.) Get rid off that “malignant” comment/message lurking in your social-networking account.
3.) If your friend is the one who sends you that comment, you can block your buddy for the meantime. Until your pal cleans up the mess.
4.) If you are using friendster. Change your settings , and only allow people to send you comments with your OWN APPROVAL! This is important, it will make comments not appear directly to your profile, but to your COMMENT APPROVAL section first.
5.) When this is done, try a clean swipe using your anti virus in your PC. (optional)
Very easy yet effective steps, to trash that worm back to whatever sewer it came from. That’s it! HAPPY social-networking again to you!
If you love social-networking, you can add us on friendster, twitter, facebook too :)
