The idea of fully automated driving is almost at hand. But before we get to that level, the system needs to go through a lot of research, testing, tweaking and even more testing stages.

Thus, it is no wonder why a lot of folks were very excited when the German carmaker, Volkswagen, announced its Temporary Auto Pilot. This new vehicle system allows its driver to drive along with a semi-automatic system that could go as fast as 130 kilometers per hour.
The German car maker has announced that the system still has to be monitored closely and that the driver shouldn’t lose his concentration on the road. Apparently, the system is made for those who can’t keep their full attention on driving as well as for those who could not keep their eyes off from distractions.
And since the system is semi-automatic, it can easily be deactivated by the driver at times that he would want to take the wheel for manual controls. With the Temporary Auto Pilot, Volkswagen hopes to lessen the rate of incidents on the road.
It will be equipped with the company’s lane-assist and side-assist system along with an adaptive cruise control. The TAP-enabled car will also be able to run based on the driver’s preferred speed as it utilizes the use of lasers, cameras and ultrasonic sensors.
As for those who would like to try the hands-free TAP system, you need to wait until its official launch.
