Yesterday, we reported the initial price and specs mock-up for the upcoming Wii 2 / Wii HD, now called as Nintendo’s Project Cafe. Today, IGN has manage to add more substantial bits of information about its real cost, production date and shipping date that can happen as early as November or up to next year.
First stop are its innards. Unlike the previous leak we have before that it will use the next-generation AMD fusion APU “Trinity”, it will stick to AMD’s R700 GPU architecture. Likewise, this type of build will beat the current rig of PS3 powered by NVIDIA 7800GTX GPU. For its processor, the earlier rumor that it will run a triple-core IBM PowerPC (just like Xbox 360) was the one deducted by IGN, although its clock-speed will be faster for Project Café. So far, it will support 1080p HD viewing although that 3D-stereoscopic capability seems to be not possible at this time.
Interestingly, its size will be the same like Xbox 360 (probably the slim version) and its touchscreen controller can even stream games, in which you can play with it independently.
For its release date, it will start shipping out from its Foxconn manufacturers on October, and it could have a public release date in November, although Nintendo might wait for a 2012 release so developers would have time to port some titles towards it. Price tends to balance between 250 – 350 USD.
Whatever the case may be, this Project Cafe is certainly not a hoax, because if it was, then the whole gamingsphere has been fooled. Expect to see its official announcement on E3 this June.
