One of the most anticipated announcement for the Computex event, soon to be finished tomorrow, is all about Microsoft’s official revelation of Windows 8 for desktops even on tablet PCs (happening on D9). Likewise, the company didn’t disappoint the crowd and managed to titillate everyone as it reveals a bevy of interesting features and applications incorporated on the new platform.
One of the most noticeable changes for Windows 8 is how its user interface is built with tiles on the home-screen just like in Windows Phone 7. These tiles represent different software or stack of programs like Internet Explorer, weather, videos, control panel, etc. Likewise, you can customize it and you’ll still be able to jump on a clear desktop screen just in case you want to have a ‘traditional’ Windows look. Furthermore, adding more contents for a certain tile is as easy as dragging one program to the next.
In addition to that, you can see that there’s a ‘Windows Store’ option on the demonstration hinting that the marketplace for WP7 will be available on Windows 8 as well. Meanwhile, this platform can both be navigated traditionally via mouse and keyboard, or with touchscreen-enabled LCDs or other devices.

To make things even more interesting, it’s expected that Windows 8 would be more compatible with tablets and the company’s “future devices”. In fact, Qualcomm mobile chip manufacturer has announced that it’s prepping to unveil dual / quad-core CPUs for Windows 8 devices.
Expect the new platform to hit its release date next year.
