It was December when we first heard that rumor-mill about Mango’s next version might be called as Apollo stating its release date should happen this year. However, since there’s some delay with the launch of Windows 7.5, hopes for Windows Phone 8 before the end of this year seem to be left in the dark.
For today, we received an interesting report stating the possible release for Windows Phone Apollo will hit on the “middle of 2012” should Nokia’s statement be deemed correct.
To be more specific, that answer came from Nokia’s Executive VP on Location & Commerce Michael Halbherr stating that timeframe for WP8’s arrival next year. However, when engadget asked “other close sources” with Microsoft, it appears mid-2012 is still “inaccurate” which might be a positive or negative connotation. Eitherway, this report confirms the existence of Apollo is very real and it’s already in the process of development.
For its features, it appears Apollo will include goodies for Nokia Windows Phones as there’ll be an integration for its NFC to work for its Navteq mapping services, and beyond. Obviously, that’s just a teaser of the changes going to be implemented for this milestone update from 7.5. We keep our fingers crossed!
