Here at the E3 event, you can expect the unexpected. I mean, who would have known from yesterday, that Microsoft will be releasing a new and sexier version of Xbox 360, today? It all just started with a leak from an Italian gaming site. And now the official announcement just keeps on pouring in! And we got all the details, cheers to engadget.
So currently here’s the official tape for the new Xbox 360 Slim.
Core Features:
250 Gigabye Internal Storage: If you’re a gamer who’s been living on the days of that old Xbox 360 Pro then you know the burden of having a small storage capacity. With the new slim, this shouldn’t be a problem at all. And the good part here is it’s removable, so you can expand its storage up to your preferences.
Form factor: Very sleek, lean and gloss black, and if you compare it with the fat 360 before, this one is pretty much sexier. And you can place it vertically or horizontally on your living room. By the way, buttons from the main console are touch sensitive as well. You just need to swipe your finger when you need to eject a disc.
‘Whisper-Quiet’ Technology: A new feature from the 360 that renders your console to a somewhat ‘silence mode’ while your playing. Now, I don’t know for sure, how silent it really is.
Connectivity
WiFi Connectivity: Wi-Fi is now finally built-in to the console! Enjoy 802.11n Wi-Fi straight from your Xbox 360 slim for easy connection with your friends or play straight from LIVE
Kinect-Ready: If you have been paying attention with the Natal Project before, now called — Microsoft Kinect. This feature is very neat. To think that you can turn your 360 slim console into a controller-free medium for your Kinect.
Backward Compatible: Thank goodness! All the games and your accessories from your old 360 unit will be compatible with the slim (Well, except for any external hard-drives, and memory units)
Pricing and Release Date:
And the most amazing part of here is the price will still be on the minty 299 USD. 149 dollars for the old Xbox 360.
Today is the official release of Xbox 360 slim for USA. Although in UK it will be later on July 16. (That shouldn’t be too long)
Other Xbox 360 Slim goodies:
Zune Straight to your Xbox 360: Zune will also be now available with Xbox 360. Feel the complete library of Zune to your console. Obviously, this upgrade is very much welcoming for us.
ESPN 3 on your Xbox 360!
Amazing updates keeps on pouring on the E3 event with Microsoft today, and along with that, ESPN confirms that it will be connected with Xbox 360 so you can share all the experiences you have while watching your favorite sports with your friends.
I believe, Microsoft is really serious on bringing the sports ambience through their consoles, and to think that their Kinect’s new Sports game just blows everyone’s mind during the presentation at E3 — adding some ESPN goodness is just a pleasure for any enthusiast. Here’s an excerpt from the statement.
A World of Sporting Events: Xbox LIVE Gold members who have high-speed internet service from an affiliated service provider will enjoy more than 3,500 live sporting events from ESPN3.com – ESPN’s 24/7 broadband sports network – including college basketball, college football and bowl games, MLB, NBA, international soccer, tennis including all four Grand Slam tournaments, golf majors and more. Watch out-of-market games and access on-demand ESPN.com video clips, refreshed daily – all completely free to Xbox LIVE Gold members.

I can’t see any reason why any old Xbox enthusiast wouldn’t get this. Especially if the price is still on 299 dollars. Just amazing indeed. :D
meh offering half what the ps3 offered in 2006. still no blue ray, locked into ms extras (and have to throw out old extras ) and not very quiet from first tests of e3 handouts/bribes
lol i wont buy it only because they promote justin bieber … Xbox fail
is the hardware the same cpu and graphic card memory etc and is the firmware still same
Processor / Graphics card / and memory are all the same. Although, somehow the Modern Warfare 2 DVD was read faster on the slim, than on the old 360.
The new X-Box 360 slim will not be recognized by an 802.11 N network using 5 GHz frequency. Instead it must be a 2.4 GHz frequency. The problem with the 2.4 GHz frequency is it has poorer range and after going through one wall of sheetrock is weak. I am now looking for a repeater or a second wi-fi to get the signal through two walls of sheetrock. Distance is less than 80 feet but the 2.4 GHz “N” signal won’t quite reach it enough for it to be usable.
