Yes, you’re right, the Xi3 is actually a computer. In fact, it has won the CES 2011 Innovations Award in the Computer Hardware category. This computer bears a cube-like shape and measures less than 4 inches only per side. This may be a type of computer that is not practical to use, but it is unique and quite interesting. But if you are looking for a computer that is trendier in style, then the Xi3 might interest you a lot.

The Xi3 is available in different colors and comes with three separate boards. One of these boards holds its AMD Athlon 64 processor and 2 GB of DDR2 RAM. While the second one carries the power/video card and lastly, the third one is more on the I/O ports to support the other board modules. Each of these boards can be easily removed, modified or even replaced if needed.
And since it is a modular-type computer, consumers will have the chance to build their own Xi3 PC. Several hardware options are available at Xi3.org that will enable you to choose from what casing color to the type of processor (core), Hard Drive, mounting options, display and operating system. They are also offering a Xi3 package for non-techie individuals who like to skip the worry of choosing good parts and specs.
The Xi3 is powered by a dual core processor and only takes around 20-watts to operate. That is energy efficient isn’t it? No wonder it was given that kind of recognition in the recently held International CES event in New York. In addition to what have been mentioned, the Xi3 is also a computer that comes with an aluminum chassis that serves as a type of heatsink that helps mitigate and dissipate heat blooms within the device.

Well, it seems that this new device is so interesting, but most probably it would be the last device that you will buy for yourself. As Jason A. Sullivan, President and CEO of Xi3 said that their company strong believes that computers should not only come with a limited life and should be upgradeable and updateable as well as the time goes by.
The concept of having three motherboards in one computer unit is quite unique and created with the idea of a modular system. The Xi3 modular computer is already available at a retail price of $ 1,000 in limited stocks only. But mass production and distribution is scheduled early next year. So what do you think about the Xi3 computer? Are you willing to buy a computer of this kind?
