Yelp vs Google Hotpot: Best Deals, Review and Guide

Posted on 05 February 2011 by pinoytutorial

Google has recently introduced Hotpot, a new online recommendation system to its billions of patrons. Basically, in this service you will be able to rate places like restaurants, hotels, cafes and even add some of your friends as well. So the next time to perform a search, Google will come up with some sort of personalized results showing the listing of places as recommended by your friends and those that you also preferred.

Many web users have found this service very useful and they were satisfied with the results considering the people who made these recommendations include friends that they trust. And because of this, it is not really surprising that even for a short period of time this new online service has already gone so far. And just recently it has already become a part of the Google search box for easier access.

In Google’s official blog, Hotpot project manager Lior Ron has written that “Hotpot is really going places: to a Google search box near you and around the world.” In addition to this, Hotpot will be also available in 38 new languages as well that includes French, German, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Chinese and Korean among others. Hotpot also comes seamless integration with Google Maps as well most especially the Google Maps on Android.

Here’s a video demo how it works:

It is a good thing to know that we can now have more access to Hotpot and be able to enjoy Hotpot recommendations in your regular search results in Google. So it will be easier for you to search the best places like restaurants, hotels and the like since your friends will also give their ratings as well as their recommendations on the best places that they have been. This will help your search easier and more reliable.

Google Hotpot is expected to become the closest competitor of Yelp, a website that offers to help consumers to find products and establishments based on the experiences shared by different consumers. It is basically a social networking site, user review and local search website rolled into one site. FYI, Yelp became a hot topic all over the web because of allegedly turning down Google’s $500 million offer to buy it.

Google Hotpot and Yelp may be similar as far as its intention is concerned and that is to help people find the best products and establishments based on the recommendations of others. So which do you think is better, Yelp or Google Hotpot? Let us know in the comment section below.
