There are some ongoing rumors that Google’s YouTube is currently working on a plan of expanding its movie rental services in the internet worldwide. Apparently, the popular video-sharing website intends to bring new blockbuster movies with its pay-per-view subscription services.
According to a very reliable source, there were some ongoing talks between Google and Hollywood’s leading movie studios and apparently this is in connection with Google’s plan of coming up with such service. If this agreement will push through, it will give way to the release of major Hollywood movies that will be linked with both Google’s search engine and YouTube.
Under this service, users will be able to stream new movies at a cost of only $5. The said movies will be readily available in the market at the same time when they are released in Blue-ray and DVD formats. YouTube has been already doing some rental services since early this year, but only on a trial basis. But with this plan YouTube hopes to gain more control when it comes to multimedia distribution.
Some film studios are quite excited about this plan since they see great potential for growth in the Internet Marketing Services. In the past few months, movie rental stores have experienced a decline since most people find renting videos online to be more convenient. Taking into consideration the ongoing decline in the demands of over-the-counter rentals, it is expected that a great number of people will resort to online movie rental services like this.
This effort by Google may be brought about by some sort of a competition. As rumored, Apple is coming out with the iTV whose main features lie exclusively on streaming movies as well as TV shows and apparently it will be offered at a lower price. So Google might be planning to launch this service before Apple’s iTV penetrates the market.
Apparently, the said service will be initially launched in the US, but it is also expected to reach other countries worldwide. It is also expected that this YouTube based movie service might also come to Android-powered smartphones as well. Google is expected to unveil this latest service by YouTube before the year ends.
